Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA Hosts Annual Back-to-School Block Party

HARRISBURG, PA  (July 27, 2026) - Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA (BBBSSCPA), in partnership with Pennsylvania STEAM Academy, welcomed more than 480 pre-registered families for its annual Back-to-School Block Party, providing students with the supplies, resources, and encouragement they need to begin the new school year with confidence. Designed to remove barriers for local families while celebrating the start of another school year, the event featured free backpacks and school supplies, shoes for eligible Big Brothers Big Sisters youth while supplies last, haircuts and hairstyling services, family resources, children's activities, food, music, and opportunities to connect with community organizations committed to helping children succeed.

Event resources included organizations such as Capital Blue Cross, PA Treasury Department, Pennsylvania Health & Wellness, Health Partners Plans by Jefferson, Harrisburg YMCA, Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, Color & Culture/Latino Connection, Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg, ASERT, KASA Ministries, and many more. The celebration also featured music by DJ Gains Bond, food from; From the Soul Kitchen, drinks from Reign & Taij's Lemonade, a game truck, children's activities, and more.
