Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA takes Fundraising to New Heights at Over the Edge
Community leaders and supporters rappelled down Market Square Plaza
on October 9 to reach a $100,000 fundraising goal.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (October 10, 2026) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA (BBBSSCPA) is took fundraising to new heights on Friday, October 9, as community leaders, supporters and local personalities rappelled down Market Square Plaza in downtown Harrisburg for the organization’s annual Over the Edge fundraiser.

The high-energy event challenged participants to step outside their comfort zone and rappel down the side of the building, all while raising critical funds to support one-to-one mentoring programs for young people throughout South-Central Pennsylvania. Funds raised through Over the Edge help the organization continue serving more than 2,000 youth across its seven-county footprint of Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.
“Over The Edge is certainly an exciting event to watch, but what happens on the roof of that building represents something much bigger,” said Amy Rote, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA. “Every person who took that step over the edge is helping us create and support mentoring relationships that can have a lasting impact on a young person’s life. Reaching our $100,000 goal means we can continue showing up for youth and families throughout our region.”
This year’s event brought together individuals from across the community who have committed to raising funds and taking the approximately 18-story descent down Market Square Plaza. The event also provided a unique opportunity for the public to gather in downtown Harrisburg, cheer on rappelers and learn more about the impact of mentoring throughout the region.
For BBBSSCPA, the spectacle of rappelling is ultimately a vehicle for a much larger mission: ensuring young people have consistent, supportive adults in their corner.
